Adopting circular economy principles – eliminating waste, designing for reuse, and creating closed-loop supply chains – is essential to real estate’s journey to net zero and to avoiding stranded assets.

Yet, the industry still lacks a clear roadmap for identifying sustainable assets, particularly in existing buildings. That’s why the pilot launch of the UK’s first Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard is so promising. This science-based benchmark will bring clarity and consistency to sustainability in the built environment.

Phil draws on lessons from our projects at 16 Berners Street and 77 Coleman Street, where whole-life carbon analysis challenged assumptions and delivered surprising results, saving thousands of tonnes of carbon through reuse and smart material choices.
